Caturday Dancing with Munch

Edvard Munch's Dance on the Shore

We saw this painting at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, part of a special exhibition - Beyond the Stars: The Mystical Landscape from Monet to Kandinsky.  (It normally resides at the National Museum in Prague.) Note that there is a kitty watching the dance from the foreground.

Happy Caturday!

A cat, are you sure? I find all of his paintings really sinister.
I'm never quite certain what I'm looking at.

For instance, the white bit of shoreline above the 'cat' looks like his 'scream' face. Can you see what I mean?
Definitely sinister.
Yes, I see what you mean. I find Munch fascinating. Certainly there is a dark tone almost always present. In this one, what looks dark to me are the two women in black approaching the dancing ladies.

Yes, definitely menacing. I wonder if he ever saw a psychiatrist?
Apparently, he had a breakdown in his 40's and (according to Wikipedia) entered the clinic of a Dr. Jacobsen, and his works became lighter after that, but no doubt he was a person of intense emotion.
