An impeccable, perfect performance of an exquisitely beautiful composition. Although the tempo of the piece is slow, "O Magnum Mysterium" is very, very difficult for a choir to perform correctly, because the chords that the choir must sing occasionally clash and then resolve. An individual member of the choir cannot ever have any large (or small) mystery about what note to sing next. Moreover, the piece is sung without accompaniment, so there should not be any sag of pitch from beginning to end. This choir does everything right to provide us with a breathtakingly beautiful listening experience. Thanks for the post, Penny. A real Christmas treat!
Thanks, everyone! This really is my favorite Christmas piece - it's sophisticated and yet mysterious and multi-layered. And to me, it captures the awe of the whole idea - O great mystery, that animals witnessed the birth of the savior.
