Absolutely beautiful music. Samuel Barber's String Quartet has always been a favorite, just because of that gorgeous second movement. I always enjoy hearing the re-scoring of that movement to the Adagio for Strings for string orchestra. I never realized until today that Barber had used this same music for a setting of Agnus Dei in Latin. A glorious way to appreciate the seriousness of the day. Thanks for the post.
Yes, isn't it a wonderful piece sung? Years ago, I had a friend who said, having only heard the orchestral version, that this song "reminded her of Jesus." And so it does. Thanks, Bill!
