Morning Collect: St. Aidan

O loving God,
you called your servant Aidan
from the peace of a cloister
to re-establish the Christian mission in northern England,
and endowed him with gentleness, simplicity, and strength:
Grant that we, following his example,
may use what you have given us
for the relief of human need,
and may persevere in commending the saving Gospel
of our Redeemer Jesus Christ;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

A nice prayer Penny.
I keep confusing Aidan with The Venerable Bede and was hoping for some information about him this morning.
Unfortunately the lay minister leading morning prayer this morning was unable to get into the vestry so my questions remain unanswered.
Maybe next year?
Ray, here's the link to the Wikipedia article on Aidan:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aidan_of_Lindisfarne

Since the V Bede wrote Aidan's bio, it's easy to get confused about all that. And I read a little bit ago that St Cuthbert is combined with St Aidan for commemoration today in the new calendar. I "met" Cuthbert at the Cathedral at Durham when I went to see the Venerable Bede's grave there.

Thanks Penny. I too have been to Durham Cathedral and to Lindisfarn but seem to have lost my focus. Nancy Wallace has some info on her blog too.
